Something a bit different today, sort of. A while ago, I saw an advert for a game called Combat Cards. It’s an app and based in the Warhammer 40k universe. I had never heard of it before, so I thought I would give it a go. I was attracted by the pictures of pretty miniatures and characters I knew.
It turns out the app is based on an old Games Workshop game of the same name. The mechanic is simple enough, beat your opponent using either ranged, melee or psychic attacks. When you beat their boss, you win. Sounds simple right…
The mechanics are easy to get your head around and it’s not long before you are picking different factions and going to war. Here are some screenshots:
I have been playing a while now, so have managed to upgrade cards. I also scored Eisenhorn at an event at Warhammer World.
What I enjoy about this game is that you can play it for five minutes and be done with it. It doesn’t demand hours of grinding or dailies to get anywhere. There is an option to buy coins etc but you don’t need to in order to enjoy the game. There are little side missions that offer experience – for more deck points, free packs of cards every few hours and the option to collect skulls. There is a campaign every week which offers rewards no matter how new you are as well.
It can be a little tough at the beginning, but I have found the game to be fun and well worth a play.
There’s an actual cardgame based of of the horus heresy. Was free to download last time i checked. Difficult to get into but had a nice touch to it when i played…

Generally, as a rule, I don’t like card games. I enjoy this one as it is simple to play and doesn’t take forever or all of my time. A quick 5 mins here and there is fine. Makes me think, but not too much.
I remember the HH one and it was too much for me.
