Coast Guard Inquisitor Warband!

I have finally finished the Coast Guard commission and I am so proud of the miniatures. I love the tank, and the Warband itself too.

The scheme was blues and gold/yellow and based on the coast guard, as explained in a previous post.

The coast guard symbol is about an inch and a half long, and I’m proud of these miniatures. The faves turned out well, the gold looks deep and the swords well blended.

Intercessor Squad 1!

This is not my first intercessor squad. I have long since stopped counting how many I have painted. This is the first squad in 3rd Company for the Blood Angels I have been collecting.

I started painting them before the Pandemic.

I have finally finished them. I’m super pleased with how they turned out. I feel the edge highlighting is crisp and the colours decent. I used a background to take some pictures and then took some others without it.

They have now joined their brothers on the shelf and hopefully, I’ll be able to finish some more pre-pandemic minis soon!

Forster’s Foundry: print and paint Norric

This is artificer Norric. I painted him for someone who got in touch about the print and paint service we offer at the Foundry. He is painted to Tier 2 quality and was loads of fun to work on. Fortunately. The client sent over loads of pictures of how they wanted him painting, which always helps. Using these I was able to create the mini he was after, as seen below!

Norric was created using HeroForge and printed out using Forster’s Foundry. The link to the service is below:

Ad Mech Part 2

I have finished the second part of the Adeptus Mechanicus after what feels like an age. I have very much enjoyed the commission, and working on a whole army all at once rather than a few miniatures here and there. It was not as much of a slog as I feared it might be, but I did use a lot of red!

The only mini I have not pictured is the flier, as It is being sent part assembled, and it did not fit in the light box!

I shall be taking a bit of a break from the Ad Mech, but not for long as I already have a few more waiting to be done!

Feature photos

A quick post today. I was asked to photograph five miniatures for a feature on YouTube – when the video is up I will post links. They were to be my favourite miniatures. These are the results:

I also submitted Ahriman and the Ahriman, because that is a hilarious diorama which I am still very proud of!

These are some of my finest miniatures and it was good taking proper pictures too!

Necrons!

I started painting the Indomitus Necrons the other day and wanted to share the progress I have made on them. There are a few new things I am trying out with them, which seem to have worked so far. Here are the pictures, I will talk about the new things afterwards so you know what I am talking about:

The bases. Usually, I would use either Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil to shade the texture paint. (I love texture paint), but this time around I wanted to use a different colour to see what effect it woul have. I used Druchii Violet as it is close to the red in the colour wheel, and then drybrushed Jokero Orange over the top. I like the shadow effect it has, though in some places it appears to have a white hue to it – might have to look into that and see where it has come from.

I am also really pleased with the Plasmancer’s blade. I have done blended weapons before but the green on this seems to have come out really well. Of course, the rest of the Plasmancer needs more work doing to him, but I really wanted to share what I had done so far.

I am looking forward to painting the rest of them and seeing them as a force on the battlefield, they should look striking on the red gaming mat that we use! Pictures to follow I am sure!

Blood Angels.

So, now that I have finished with the Death Company for now, I decided it was time to move on and paint something else. I have a lot,of boxes in the house that are sitting around and need attention, but worse than that, I have a lot of old spruces that need assembling. Today, I put together 4 scouts, the last one seems to have gone off on a mission somewhere, and sorted out 10 Space Marines of the old variety. I know they’re not getting releases now, but it seems a shame not to use them. They are all going to be Blood Angels anyway and so will join the top shelf when finished.

I am trying to make them seem very ‘Space Marine’ so have them with banners and ornate bits and bobs, and a ton of purity seals too. I also found some random miniatures that are going to be added to the squad, because they have nowhere else to hang out.

Don’t worry, I will drill out barrels when I have everyone assembled and in a line for painting!

The other thing I did today was stupid. I scratched my cheek with my scalpel in my hand and sliced my nose. It bled profusely but will heal ok on its own. It left me feeling really dumb. What is the dumbest thing you have done while hobbying?

Hobby Challenge – Day 2

Today’s challenge was to continue with a large miniature that has been neglected for ages. I have a Khorgorath here that has been half base coated for about a year. I had to dust the poor thing off before I started work on it today!

I did make a fair bit of progress though – most of the base coats are now done and I did some work on the face and eyes. It’s nowhere near finished, however I am pleased to actually get some more paint on the miniature.

I have a couple of progress shout outs to make that people have shown me for yesterday’s challenge. Well done to Gallandrox and Mabat for getting to their miniatures finished!!

The Alpha Legion…

As we all know, the Alpha Legion like to sneak into other legions in order to learn their secrets and steal them. It worked rather well during the Heresy and I suppose they are still up to their sneaking about in the 40K universe.

A while ago, at a Warboot, I picked up two Alpha Legion miniatures simply because they looked cool and were cheap. I want them to go in the Black Legion but decided to try a technique out to make them still look a bit Alpha Legion. I will show you the pictures and you can see what I mean:

As well as freehanding a Chaos Star over the Alpha Legion symbol – it is supposed to look a bit rubbish, I wanted to show chips of black paint. Under these I wanted the Alpha Legion sea green and I think I managed to get that to look alright. I painted on silver spots, painted the spots Aethermatic Blue and then edge highlighted them with both the dark grey and light grey to try to give that worn effect.

I have another Alpha Legion ‘specialist’ to go with this one so I will be trying the technique again and refining it as I learn.

Not bad for a first attempt I think1

Affiliates and other Goblins

A couple of points I want to make today.

I have set up an affiliates link page on the blog, http://www.blackhandmarines.com/afiliates, and I am looking to add to the list. If you are interested in adding yourself to the page, please get in touch and I shall do so. Please only give me one option to start with, this may change in the future, but for now I think one per person is enough. I hope to create a reference place for other hobby blogs and maybe even generate some traffic. Who knows, it might even work.

In other news, I have finished painting somem squig hoppers and I am pleased with how they have turned out:

Not only were they a lot of fun to work on, but I used the airbrush for the base coats and that gave me some practice as finer detail work. Hopefully, they will find a new home soon!
