Animation Project – 1

With being stuck inside and unable to go out, this seems like the perfect time to try out something new. I have been wanting to learn how to animate so the short film idea I have for Fulgrim dancing to Staying Alive can be met. It’s a small dream perhaps, and definitely a silly one, but it is what it is.

So, I did a bit of research into available free software and I went for a program called Plastic Animation Paper – Or PAP4 for short. It came with free tutorials and seeing how I know nothing about animation, I thought that was a good idea.

I read through the first lesson, which was about familiarising myself with the software’s UI, and then went straight into the second. More was taught about the UI, and I managed to create a small sequence using what it told me. Here it is:

This is a very simple one I know, but I am so very proud of myself for it. For those of you who do not know of my comics, this is a simplified Perturabo doing something he would never ever do.

Next I am going to try and make one of Abaddon walking. It will not be simple but it should be fun!

Black Library Submission – take 2

I was unsure whether I was going to bother entering anything for the Black Library Open Submissions this time around. I’ve been busy getting the commission business all set up and going and I spent the majority of my time painting. It would be a shame not to though, these opportunities don’t come around very often and it would be a waste not to take it while it’s there.

The theme this time is Brotherhood, with a choice of different themes to write within that. They want to see groups of individual working together, and seeing how I like creating Warbands and such, it gave me the kick I needed to flesh out some of my half created characters.

I decided to go for the group who would have made the diorama had I finished it in time. The Ludicrous Seven. They consist of the following character:

Kycius – an Iron Warrior who likes to think he is in charge.

Roushal – A Noise Marine who talks too fast and too much.

Abraxas – A Khorne Berzerker who is surprisingly together when not in a fight.

Festus – A Plague Marine – he needs the most work.

Shabaka – A Thousand Son sorcerer with delusions of grandure

Sarlath – A Night Lord without the ability to speak

Davidus – An Ultramarine Skeleton.

They are an interesting bunch who are slowly taking shape in my mind. I have a lot of work to do on them, but I have a rough outline and a plot that grows each day. I am looking forward to seeing where their tale goes at the very least! For now, have this short scribble and some pictures of the miniatures:

Before he could stop him, Roushal poked his head up before immediately ducking down. “There’s ten thousand, I counted real quick.” Kycius looked at Shabaka, who rolled his eyes.

The Headnought

I think this is perhaps the stupidest miniature I own. He came with a bunch of second hand Ultramarines I bought a long time ago. One thing I do know is that it has endured a lot of mocking. A dreadnought with a head seems to me a daft concept and whomever made him was either a genius, or had taken some substance and gone mad.

I have however, become quite fond of the damned thing and so have decided to make it some sort of mascot. I touched up the paint on him, picking out some details and giving him some highlights. I’ve also added some more texture paint to his base and painted the rim. He will remind me that not everything isn’t he Grimdark universe has to be serious, and there are no limits. If you want a dreadnought with a head, why not?

All he needs now is a name…
