Custodies and preacher!

I have recently finished a custodies blade champion and a preacher.

The preacher was metal, which was a surprise but he wasn’t massive so he was no bother. I don’t generally like metal miniatures, but every now and then is fine.

The custodian was an interesting miniature, and I much preferred him to the preacher! I liked painting the gold, which I was unsure about, but I think it turned out alright in the end!

Yndrasta – painted

I had a go at painting Yndrasta recently, and wanted to get her done relatively quickly. As such, most of her was painted using dry brushing. I layer up the colours, starting dark and then working up to the brightest with less and less pressure on the brush. The wings show this the clearest and I feel it worked well.

I also dry brushed the metallic part of her, finally using a detail brush to pick out other details such as the gems and belts. I’m really pleased with how she turned out.

I also added some grasses to the base to make it look a bit swampy. There are some of those details already there, however I added some more to make the effect more dynamic. Here she is:

Store!

As many of you know, this blog space also has a store. I have also mentioned that I am in the process of buying a house. I am selling several bits off to help raise funds for this pending move. It will also mean I do not have to package up other bits in order to move them nearer the time.

If there is anything you have seen on this blog that you are interested in, please get in touch I am sure we can work something out – even if it is not in the store!

Necromuda

I have a lot going on other than in my Warhammer/hobby life at the moment but that doesn’t mean I have stopped painting. I have managed to paint up some more Necromunda Palantine Enforcers, which I thoroughly enjoyed doing. I liked the ones I did for a commission so decided to get some of my own to paint. I stick to the colour scheme on the box as I really think this is effective. This is how they turned out:

I really liked the fact that these miniatures came with the moulded bases, and the opportunity to use a fairly limited colour palette. The yellow really stands out about the shades of blue and grey and I think they look good. The added bonus was they did not take that long to paint at all!

Decals

Up until very recently, the only thing I have put decals on is a tank – a large, flat surface that is relatively easy to do. I have just started to put them in other places. I usually freehand details like that, but seeing how I am now painting a full army, that is a lot of freehand. It is about time I learned how to use decals anyway as some of the orders I have taken lately have also asked for them. Here are the results on one of the Blood Angels Assault Intercessors – and a shot of the Captain again as well because I am super proud of him!

Necrons!

I started painting the Indomitus Necrons the other day and wanted to share the progress I have made on them. There are a few new things I am trying out with them, which seem to have worked so far. Here are the pictures, I will talk about the new things afterwards so you know what I am talking about:

The bases. Usually, I would use either Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil to shade the texture paint. (I love texture paint), but this time around I wanted to use a different colour to see what effect it woul have. I used Druchii Violet as it is close to the red in the colour wheel, and then drybrushed Jokero Orange over the top. I like the shadow effect it has, though in some places it appears to have a white hue to it – might have to look into that and see where it has come from.

I am also really pleased with the Plasmancer’s blade. I have done blended weapons before but the green on this seems to have come out really well. Of course, the rest of the Plasmancer needs more work doing to him, but I really wanted to share what I had done so far.

I am looking forward to painting the rest of them and seeing them as a force on the battlefield, they should look striking on the red gaming mat that we use! Pictures to follow I am sure!

Old School Blood Angels!

I have taken some time to paint my own miniatures this week. With the looming release of Indomitus, I want to clear some space on the ‘To Paint’ shelf. So I have worked on the base coated ‘mini’ marines. I collected the various parts from a load of bits boxes around the house and stuck them together. They are a mis-matched bunch of marines, but they are mine and I am sure there will be plenty of fights for them to get stuck into in the future.

There are twelve in the squad – I had extras so put them altogether and thought they may as well all be in the smae squad. There seemed to be no point in having two smaller squads and I am sure I can write a fluff reason for it if the need arises.

It has been really lovely as well to work on something for myself, rather than for a commission or for sale elsewhere. I plan on painting the Marine half as Blood Angels and keeping them, and then maybe actually playing some games with them! That would be a novel idea!

Death Company – Part 1

This week I have mostly been working on Death Company. I have finished five of the many Death Company miniatures I have working here. Have a picture montage of these fine, angry men:

What I have really enjoyed about these is not rushing through them. Being able to take my time and get into the details a bit more than I usually would. I am now going to work on a Chaplain friend for them, someone has to keep this rowdy bunch in line.

In other news, the Trailblazer project continues to grow and I am finding my enthusiasm for it is too. Go and have a look at the latest – I start to develop a starship, and there are some great bust pictures drawn my Jenn too:

Tanks A Lot!!

Normally I cannot stand a cheesy pun but that one was too good to resist. So far this month, I have finished three tanks. Two of the Executioners and one of the Repulsors. I wanted to show the different colours I have done, and really to just stand back and be pleased with them. I have discovered that I really enjoy painting vehicles and it doesn’t take a great deal to make them look weathered and worn. Here they are in their battered glory!

I love the kits, and now that I have done several of them, I feel that they do not take a great deal of time to put together. I do need to work on making sure they fit together a bit better so there are no gaps in them though, the front panel is a swine for this. I just need to be a bit more patient.

Having an airbrush to base coat them makes them a lot quicker to paint, and I think using Seraphim Sepia to add the grime to the bottom just adds to the layer of battle damage. It applies really smoothly and although I have tried other washes, I just think this one looks the best!

What’s on the table this week?

This is a bit like a weekly ‘to do’ list! These are some of the things I wish to achieve miniature wise in the week ahead, though I am not sure I will get everything done with a planned trip to my folks place! So, in no particular order:

  1. Khorne Berzerkers. I’ve already base coated them and got them on the right sized bases. Now they need finishing off.

2) Guillliman who is a commission for a friend of mine, and some screamers. I want to try something with different colours on the screamers. Guilliman is already base coated and ready for pin shading and metallics.IMG_3564

3) This Death Jester and the other Eldar guy. They came in a batch of Eldar that was picked up at the Warboot and I think they look interesting, so I will paint them to sell at a later date. Always good to try some different miniatures right?IMG_3563

4) I want to paint this guy to practice on those swords. I believe this is a converted Autarch?IMG_3562

5) This fellow has a banner and is already primed… I’m going to Eldar freehand it and practice gems!IMG_3561

6) And then there is this guy…

IMG_2534IMG_2533

I shall be very busy but I am confident I will get at least the first 5 done. The last guy will be an ongoing project as he is rather large. He shall be the reward for painting the others and progress will be slower. I am painting him for myself though, rather than for commission or selling. Either way, it shall be a busy, but fun, week!
